John Kinsel, Principal Engineer, Microprocessor Products Division, PMC-SierraJohn Kinsel is a Principal Engineer for PMC-Sierra's Microprocessor Products Division (MPD). Mr. Kinsel is one of the pioneers of the original MIPS® architecture. Today the Microprocessor Products Division is a leading provider of general purpose MIPS-Powered™ microprocessors. PMC-Sierra offers the most diverse family of stand-alone and integrated 64-bit MIPS-based microprocessors on the market today that are designed for a broad range of applications including networking routers and switches, storage, cellular base stations, and printers.
Prior to joining PMC-Sierra, Mr. Kinsel was a Principal Engineer at Quantum Effect Devices, Inc. since its inception in August 1991. Quantum Effect Devices, Inc. designed, developed and marketed high-performance, cost-effective, and market-driven embedded microprocessor solutions. Quantum Effect Devices was acquired by PMC-Sierra in August 2000.
Mr. Kinsel has over 19 years of experience in the microprocessor industry and has worked in various design roles. From 1985 to 1991 he was a Design Engineer at MIPS Computer Systems, Inc. where he contributed to the development of the R2000 and the original MIPS architecture System Address Bus (SysAD). From 1981 to 1985, Mr. Kinsel was a Board Design Engineer for BTI Computer Systems. Mr. Kinsel holds a Master's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois.
